About Me
Molly Pilling’s work consists primarily of photography. Her work represents many different themes and stories making no photo seem quite the same. When looking through the lense she tries to find the uniqueness of each location and tries to find what could have been well loved. Even with the majority of her photos being focused around an abandoned setting. With this she takes forgotten or ruined places and turns them into moody, distressed, time worn, or even untouched photos. This makes people feel a sense of calmness or tranquility. People tend to get engrossed in the defined texture in her photographs as well as the dark color palettes throughout her work.
Her process may seem simple to some but there is actually a lot of thought and time put into it to find these places. Pilling tends to only go to places that are within an hour drive from her or where family members live. She also tends to ask people around her every day life if they know any run down locations that she can get into. With each location she needs to find who the owner is, which alone can take the longest time out of her process. Pilling would like to be able to integrate these photos into helping the community and possibly help fund the location. Once in these locations Pilling looks around and begins to try to find the small details in the building. After discovering these objects she begins to take close up photos that are later turned into black and white stills that give that untouched feeling to them.
